Sharing some thoughts on Remembrance Day

I’m sure many of us are sharing the same sentiments and feelings on this important day. I had the honour of attending CP Rail's Remembrance Day ceremony in Ogden this morning and it left me feeling thoughtful. I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some of those thoughts here.

I know that I am feeling proud – proud to be a Canadian, proud to be an Albertan, proud of the values, rights and freedoms that we are so fortunate to share. I am feeling gratitude, so much gratitude, for all of the men and women who have selflessly served and continue to serve our country. I feel humbled, humbled by their willingness to sacrifice, humbled by their strength, courage and determination. I feel honoured to be wearing a poppy, and deeply respectful of what it symbolizes.

We can convey all of these feelings, these sentiments, through the simple yet especially profound phrase, Lest we forget.

What powerful words.

It is encouraging to see so many members of the community, all different ages and backgrounds, coming together to acknowledge the incredible significance of this phrase. Today is for embracing our feelings of gratitude, honour and pride. Today is for remembering those that have made the ultimate sacrifice, those that continue to take on the hazardous work of safeguarding our freedoms and values, as well as those working for peace around the world.

Lest we forget. Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Joe
